Oxycodone

Oxycodone is a schedule II narcotic. This means that it does have some medical use, but is very habit forming and often abused. It is used for moderate to high pain relief related to:

  • Injury
  • Bursitis
  • Dislocations
  • Fractures
  • Neuralgia
  • Arthritis
  • Lower back pain
  • Pain caused by cancer
Oxycodone comes in several forms including the controlled release OxyContin; immediate release OxylR or OxyFast; or combined with non narcotic analgesics like aspirin in Percodan, or acetaminophen in Percocet.

Oxycodone acts similarly to other opioids. This means that it produces effects such as:

  • Analgesia
  • Sedation
  • Euphoria
  • Relaxation
  • Respiratory depression
  • Constipation
  • Papillary constriction
  • Cough suppression
Respiratory depression is one of the most serious side effects associated with oxycodone and any other opioid substance. With a large enough dose, this respiratory depression can become severe enough to cause death. Because of this, the DEA and legal system are very stringent in penalties related to the trafficking of oxycodone. If death or serious injury is involved in your case, the penalties are even harsher.

If you are caught with any amount of oxycodone in any form without an acceptable purpose, you could be facing some harsh penalties. These penalties can include up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to one million dollars. If there is a death or serious injury, you could be facing 20 years to life in prison.
